Good news for a change!
Last Saturday I received a grovelling letter (I won't bore you with all the details) from Marks and Spencer in response to my last letter to them. Included with the letter was a voucher for 80% of the purchase price of the jumper which shrunk. They have now refunded me 120% of the cost of the jumper which means that after taking into account the cost of posting the jumper to them and my bus fare into Chester to attempt to return the jumper to the store there, that I have about £4 compensation for my troubles. I am not complaining. At last, I have got my money back which was what I wanted all along, as this was the first jumper that has ever shrunk when I washed it. It has taken three months of patience and letter writing when the store should have refunded me in the first place. I have learned from this experience always to have an argument prepared in case things do not go to plan.
Thank you for your comments, suggestions and support. They helped to make me determined to see this through to its rightful conclusion.

Pleased to hear of the good ending. Now, on to a delightful spring.
Pleased to hear that you have got it sorted now! Would have saved a lot of effort, expense and time if they'd refunded it in the first place.
Good for you that you kept pestering. Paid off.

Pity you had to persist..but at least you won!
Good result - even though it took some doing! We complained to DVLA weeks back - no response yet! Must remind them of our annoyance.
Well done with your perseverence. Sometimes you have to be like a dog with a bone don't you? I never give up. ;)
Yes, a shame you had to keep going to get recompense, but at least you got satisfaction in the end.
result! Good for you!
Well done, hard work but you got justice. Unfortunately not everyone has the time or energy, the stores count on most people giving up long before you did. I'm till cross with M&S for treating you so badly
After no response from CUSS-tomer service regarding the SHARK steam mop that stopped steaming, I marched to the store, bought another one, and returned the broken one in the new box. If this one breaks, I'll do the same until SHARKS inventory is nothing but my broken steamers.
Great to hear the good news. It is always nice when customer service finally works - shame it had to take so long and so much grief.
It was worth all your effort in the end then :)
Great result CW:) xxx
Great news persistance pays xx
Yay! I love to hear success stories from real people. I was always taught that when you need to complain, you go in very clear on what you want them to do about it. It seems to help. I think a 120% refund isn't too shabby :-)
Wow - respect that you managed to stick with it and get a result! Well done!
I don't know if you will get around to reading this now, but I only just found you via Maggie's blog this morning. Re your previous post, our council banding was too high when we bought this house. It had been assessed at a time when property prices were high, though they had begun to fall by the time we bought it the following year. So I wrote and complained about it. They refused to lower it. So I wrote again, the self same polite letter. This toing and froing went on for several months and letters, until in the end they threatened to take the matter to court to get it resolved. I more or less said, bring it on, though used far better superior language, but that was the gist of it. They backed down and reassessed to the lower level it should have been. I always, always complain by letter (and email if possible) and if I feel or know I am in the right, will persist to the bitter end. Too many big companies and such like think they can ride roughshod over 'the little people' ... well, not this little redheaded Yorkshirewoman they can't!
Hope you feel more settled in Cheshire now. I once had family in Gatley and a friend from Marple.
Well done! Persistence pays!
I'd take that 4 pounds straight to the confectioners and buy chocolate...live it up, that might get you a bar of turkish delight or a flake
Good for you standing up to them, too!!!
hugs
Sandi
