21 again

According to my reckoning today is my birthday. To be honest I am not keen on birthdays and I would be happy to give the whole thing a miss but usually I am not allowed to.

When the subject came up a few weeks ago my elderly mother managed to get the date right but admitted that she could not remember how old I am. So I told her that I was 21 and that seemed to satisfy her although I am sure that she knows that I am more than 21. I thought that dementia, which she has, affected the short term memory. I would have expected her to remember the birth of her first born even though it was 21 plus years ago. Never mind, I know my place. My brother is the blue eyed boy I am the green eyed monster. Yes, I do have green eyes.

At the beginning of October my husband's bachelor uncle died. Once it had been established that he had made a will, but not given any directions regarding a funeral, my husband and his sister arranged the funeral for today. When I was told of the arrangements I said to my husband - 'doesn't that date ring a bell?' ' No' he said. I then reminded him that it was my birthday and he would have to re-arrange the funeral as I was not going to it on my birthday. So after much deliberation the funeral has been re-arranged.

No sign of a present yet, which is not surprising as I have not decided what I would like, but my husband has suggested a pair of secateurs. He ran the lawn mower over my last pair and after we had fished the remains of them out of the innards of the mower, they ended up in the dustbin.

I was once given a new oven cloth by my husband for a birthday present. I have not let him forget it!

Oh..... these practical presents. Ha! It seems to be a man thing, doesn't it? You will have to leave a list lying around in a prominent place!

Secateurs and arranging a funeral on your birthday? You need a new husband for your birthday!

A belated Happy Birthday! Yes, I once had a belt sander for mine. Mind you, this was years ago when I was into making wooden Christmas ornaments for craft shows. I am still waiting for that sparkly diamond, wink wink. All joking aside I should say I am into photography these days and my belt sander has stepped up to camera equipment :) Maybe when I finally get into jewelry I will get my diamond, doesn't have to be as big as the Hope Diamond, a little chip will do - ha!

Hope you had a lovely birthday - my friend once got an iron from her husband and he had thoughtfully wrapped up a spare plug as an added bonus too, she was delighted to open that, I can tell you...

Congrats on your post of the day! And if it's any consolation, a good friend received a thermos from her husband one year-- the year after he gave her a used Stratego game. He was a practical sort of guy.

Happy 21st ;-) !!!!

My daughter's husband actually gave her one of those spot cleaner things made by Tide detergent for her birthday last year! To say she was a bit miffed would be a drastic understatement!

The garden centre is our nearest shop and it's open on Christmas eve, so yes I've had quite a few gardening presents.
How romantic some chaps are.

Happy belated birthday, I hope that you get something more exciting than some secateurs from him - how about leaving a nice jewellery catalogue lying around with some things marked - Pia would be a good choice!!

21 is a good age to be if you can get away with it!
